Freelance Tour Guides (Minijob Option in Development)

Plague, pirates, fires, executions, disappearances - Hamburg is more than a script of general tour talking points.

Haunted History Tours offers immersive walking tours focused on real historical events, and we’re looking for confident, engaging storytellers to guide guests through the darker corners of Hamburg’s history.

This job is perfect if you enjoy public speaking, performing, or captivating a crowd.

Hamburg, Germany
Outdoor walking tours in central areas.

Position Type

Currently hiring as:

Freelance / Independent Contractor (Selbstständig)

We are also in the process of offering this role as a Minijob.

This is flexible, as-needed work based on tour demand.

There are:

  • No guaranteed hours

  • No guaranteed number of tours

Guides indicate availability and may accept or decline offered tours.

Compensation

Freelance Model

  • Minimum €40 per tour

  • Additional pay based on guest count

  • Paid per completed tour

Minijob Model (in development)

  • €20 per hour

  • Paid hourly for scheduled tours

All compensation details are confirmed in writing before engagement.

Important

  • We cannot provide visa sponsorship.

  • Applicants must already have legal authorization to work in Germany.

  • This is not a salaried or full-time position.

  • Tours are assigned based on demand and availability.

Who We’re Looking For

You might be a great fit if you:

  • Speak fluent English (German is a plus)

  • Are comfortable leading groups outdoors in all typical Hamburg weather

  • Enjoy storytelling and performance

  • Are reliable and punctual

  • Prefer flexible, independent work

You do not need a formal history degree! Actually, this is an ideal job for students!

Once you accept a tour, arrival 20-30 minutes prior to start time is expected.

Real Talk

This is Hamburg and the weather makes things wet. Tours do operate year round, so you must be comfortable speaking clearly outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and managing small to medium groups of people.

What You’ll Actually Be Doing

  • Leading 90-120-minute walking tours

  • Delivering structured historical content

  • Engaging with guest questions

  • Maintaining group flow and timing

  • Representing Haunted History Tours professionally

Training and stories for tours are provided (we don’t believe in scripts).
