Hamburg Harbour History - Coming soon!
The beautiful, picturesque harbor tourists see today in the Hafen City comes from humble origins with centuries of history. Starting at the Deichstrasse, we’ll see some of the harbor’s original canals that unfortunately carried more than water and goods during the Great Fire of 1842. We’ll then walk across where a new harbor was built after the fire, hearing stories of the city’s resiliency and rebirth in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Along the way, we’ll see the Elbphilharmonie, take in fantastic views of the Hamburg skyline, and eventually board a ferry that will take us to the modern harbor completed in the 1960s. On this tour, you’ll witness fantastic views, find great places to eat and drink, and have a wonderful time taking in Hamburg’s historical and cultural heritage.
